Auto Locksmith Skoda in St Albans and Hertfordshire

Herts Car Keys makes and programs Skoda keys at the vehicle, across St Albans and Hertfordshire, from a base at Peartree Farm in Welwyn Garden City. A Skoda takes one of 7 key systems built between 1995 and the current cars, running from IMMO I to IMMO V, on the HU66 and HU162 blades. Under the Volkswagen Group scheme, IMMO V, that is MQB, typically needs a connection to ODIS with an LSID credentialled technician or a dealer, and specialist aftermarket routes exist for MQB 5A and 5B and for MQB49 5C. Everything outside that is finished where the car stands. Darius Arbaciauskas attends himself. Car keys start from £120 and every key carries a 12 month warranty.

Skoda Key Systems by Model Year

Skoda has run 7 key and immobiliser systems in the United Kingdom, from IMMO I on cars of approximately 1995 to 1999 to IMMO V on approximately 2012 onward on MQB platforms, and certain cars from 2009. The IMMO architecture is shared across the Volkswagen Group, so the Skoda difference is in the transponder rather than the wiring. The Skoda precoded ID48 variant of the IMMO III era is TP24, which is not interchangeable with the variant used by the other group marques. Outside the group scheme Skoda also runs Megamos Crypto SKODA-CAN precoded on roughly 2004 to 2009.

Key systemApproximate yearsWhat it is
IMMO Iapproximately 1995 to 1999Separate immobiliser box, fixed code transponder
IMMO IIapproximately 2000 to 2002Immobiliser module J367 inside the instrument cluster
IMMO IIIapproximately 2003 to 2006, and some 2007 carsVolkswagen Group scheme with the Skoda precoded ID48 variant TP24 in this era
Megamos Crypto SKODA-CAN precodedroughly 2004 to 2009Used on Fabia, Octavia and Roomster, with the JMA code TP24
IMMO III+year band not published, because the catalogue gives no boundaryTransponder preparation becomes necessary
IMMO IVapproximately 2006 onwardNo dedicated immobiliser module, verification spread across modules
IMMO Vapproximately 2012 onward on MQB platforms, and certain cars from 2009MQB, a dozen or more modules, tied into Component Protection

Year bands overlap, because a manufacturer changes system part way through a model run rather than on the first of January.

Skoda Key Work Covered From St Albans

Six kinds of Skoda key work are carried out where the car stands, across the 7 key systems in the table above.

  • Replacement Skoda keys. Cut to the HU66 profile at the vehicle and programmed where the key and the vehicle require it, which is the car key replacement work the St Albans page sets out in full.
  • All keys lost on a Skoda. A key built from the vehicle itself when nothing is left to copy, which on a TP24 car is read from the vehicle rather than cut from a code.
  • Skoda lockouts. The HU66 lock is picked or decoded using non destructive entry methods designed to avoid damage to the door, the lock and the glass.
  • Spare Skoda keys. Cut at the vehicle and programmed where the key and the vehicle require it, from a working original, so the TP24 system stays as it is.
  • Skoda fob and remote faults. A fob that locks the doors and leaves the engine dead points at the remote rather than the IMMO V transponder, and both are tested before a key is quoted.
  • Older Skoda models. Cars on IMMO I are still worked on, and an early transponder key is often the quicker job of the two because there is less to synchronise.

The Key Blade Used on a Skoda

The blade is the metal part of the key that turns in the lock or sits inside the fob. On Skoda the profile is HU66 and HU162, which decides the blank that is cut and the decoder that opens the lock when no working key is left.

  • HU66. The long running Volkswagen Group laser profile, used on Skoda.
  • HU162. The newer Volkswagen Group profile on later cars, used on Skoda.

Blade codes are an aftermarket convention rather than Skoda part numbers, so the blank is checked against the lock on the day.

Skoda Models Covered Across Hertfordshire

The key system table above is built from 12 Skoda models, and those are the Skoda models worked on across St Albans and Hertfordshire. They are Fabia, Octavia, Superb, Yeti, Karoq, Kodiaq, Kamiq, Scala, Citigo, Rapid, Roomster and Felicia.

Volkswagen Group KESSY, approximately 2006 onward within IMMO IV.

A Skoda outside this list is checked against the registration rather than assumed either way, because the key system decides the job and the badge does not.

What a Skoda Key Job Costs

Car keys start from £120 and car lockouts from £100. A Skoda key sits inside that range or above it according to which of the 7 systems is in the car, because a IMMO I key and a IMMO V key are different parts and different programming.

Under the Volkswagen Group scheme, IMMO V, that is MQB, typically needs a connection to ODIS with an LSID credentialled technician or a dealer, and specialist aftermarket routes exist for MQB 5A and 5B and for MQB49 5C.

The Superb, Roomster, Scout and Praktik change transponder part way through their runs at points the catalogues do not fix cleanly, so those four are read from the car rather than from a year.

Programming Tools Used on a Skoda

The tool is named because it decides what is possible at the vehicle. These are the tools on the van that cover Skoda.

  • Smart Pro. Covers the Volkswagen Group makes through the optional ADC219 cable.
  • Yanhua ACDP and ACDP2. Module coverage includes Volkswagen Group MQB and MMC instrument clusters as module 6.
  • Autel IM508 and IM608. Covers Volkswagen Group MQB48 V850 all keys lost including cars with a dual clutch transmission control unit.
  • OBDSTAR G3. Covers Volkswagen Group MQB all keys lost with an RH850 adapter.
  • VVDI Key Tool Plus. Xhorse sells a Volkswagen Group MQB48 add key and all keys lost licence for this tool.

What Happens When You Call About a Skoda

Five steps from the first call to a working key.

  1. Contact Darius. The line is answered at any hour.

  2. Give the registration, the model year and the problem. On a Skoda the year decides which key system is in the car, so it decides the tool.

  3. Take the price and the arrival estimate. The exact price is confirmed before work starts.

  4. Darius attends. He checks authorisation where ownership verification is required.

  5. The work is completed and tested at the vehicle. Any key supplied carries the 12 month warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Call 07308 888825

Can a Skoda key be made when every key is lost?

Yes. The lost car key work builds a key from the Skoda itself, so nothing has to be copied, and it is carried out where the car stands, at a home, a works unit or the roadside. On a Skoda the job depends on which of the 7 key systems is in the car, which is read from the registration.

How much is a replacement Skoda key?

Car keys start from £120. A Skoda key sits inside that range or above it according to the key system, because a IMMO I key is a different part from a IMMO V key and takes different programming. A spare cut from a working key is the cheaper of the two.

Which key system is in my Skoda?

The model year identifies it. Skoda ran IMMO I on cars of approximately 1995 to 1999, and IMMO V on approximately 2012 onward on MQB platforms, and certain cars from 2009. The table on this page lists the 7 systems and the years for each.

Does a Skoda key have to go to a dealer?

Not for most of the range. Under the Volkswagen Group scheme, IMMO V, that is MQB, typically needs a connection to ODIS with an LSID credentialled technician or a dealer, and specialist aftermarket routes exist for MQB 5A and 5B and for MQB49 5C. Everything outside that is carried out at the vehicle. Darius says which side of the line a particular car falls on when the registration is given on the phone.

Which key blade does a Skoda use?

Skoda uses 2. They are HU66 and HU162, and the one on a given car follows the model and the year.

Can a locked Skoda be opened without breaking anything?

The car is opened using non destructive entry methods designed to avoid damage to the door, the lock and the glass. The method is chosen from the vehicle and the lock rather than applied the same way to every car.
